Shout OutMatt: I think i'm crap. I'm a crap guitar player. I'm really not very good. And i thought I was a good singer until I met Coldplay. That guy's got a real voice. He can sing. Matt: The thing that topped it off was that we woke up one morning, and the field next to the studio was covered in magic mushrooms. So we picked them all and spent the next four days naked in a jacuzzi. Zane Lowe: So, Matt have you ever stolen anything...? Matt: Erm... yer i think so... erm, oh yer i stole a double bass once. Matt: After the gig in St Petersburg, there are about 50 women waiting outside the dressing room. One of them comes up to me. She's obviously a psychopath. She has a gift for me - should she go and get it? I'm used to Russian fans giving me roses and teddy bears, but she comes back with a huge, incredibly intricate oil painting, which she says took her five months to complete. It features me, naked and horribly emaciated, with birds on my shoulders. I am holding a glowing heart in front of my genitals... The next day, when we leave for home, I see Dom, our drummer, walking around the airport with the painting, showing it to complete strangers. Interviewer: You trashed a hotel toilet? Matt: Um... sort of. Everyone does that, don't they? Matt: That was f*cking pwoper.....pwoper wock.....pwoper wock 'n' woll! Matt: If you had to select a fancy dress outfit for me, would you choose batman, superman or wonder woman? Chris: Batman. Matt: Thats dark. Im not a dark person, Im the sunshine of your life. Dom: Well, Id say Wonder Woman. Matt: Thats how he want to see me. Ever since I saw him bend over to get an injection in his bum, theres been a strange energy between us (laughs). Theres definitely suspicion. Matt: I was going to wear one of those typical, white-faced alien masks, and I was gonna dress up in white and have a projection on me. Just for Unintended. It was going to be a love song from an aliens point of view: wanting to be part of the human race, but just not quite able to get in. I was mm, advised not to do that. Matt: Hi ladies, just call me Mr. Muscle!! Matt: I found myself half-naked in a toilet with one of those - you know one of those rope lights? - wrapped all around my body, just twitching in a corner with a load of, kind of, crying girls poking me. [insane Matt laugh] And I kind of said, right, we should knock these parties on the head, you know, cos it got to the point where they weren't normal. Matt: I did think of dressing up as a vampire on this tour, with a cape and fangs, and drawing blood from Chris, but that's going too far. For now. Matt on playing sports: "I try to play squash but I keep running into the walls." |
